The Nursery

The Nursery was started back in 2003 and specialises in hardy perennials. More recently, a large selection of Euphorbias are being grown.

Most of the plants we grow and sell are tried and tested in our own garden for toughness, the ability to stand up to windy sites with periods of high rainfall and also dry spells, all which are now more common in our current changing climate.

We propagate nearly all our own plants from seed, cuttings or division. The only new plants we buy are those with breeders rights (which by law we are not allowed to propagate).

We grow as organically as possible, using our own peat free compost all made with ingredients from our own land. The compost is soil based and we use organic fertilizer rather like the old fashioned John Innes compost. This compost ensures a good response from the plants when planted in the ground as they are already growing in a similar medium. Nothing is forced on our nursery, all the plants are hardened off as soon as possible and grown outside with little or no protection. Pest control is by natural predators or soap based sprays, even rhubarb leaves are use to make a insecticidal spray.

Most of the plants are sold in 2litre pots with some in larger pots depending on the size of the plants. For mail order we usually send plants out in smaller pot sizes as our compost is quite heavy. For Autumn and Winter orders some plants can be supplied bare root or unpotted. The nursery supplies good sized reasonably priced plants.

Our plant list shows all the plants we are currently growing but some may be out of stock from time to time. For mail order please email or telephone your requirements, we will then advise the costs and postage cost for your order. Orders are currently dispatched on receipt of a bank cheque. Please contact us using our contact form.

The nursery is open from March to October on Wednesdays to Saturdays 10am to 5pm, for other times of the week or year we open by appointment, just give us a ring as we are nearly always around or nearby. You may also wish to visit us at one of the many flower shows or plant sales that we attend throughout the year. Check our News & Events page for details of these.

The nursery uses a lot of pots and we are keen to recycle customer's pots. If you have any 1, 2 or 3litre sized black pots only (no tray packs or coloured pots) bring them in exchange for a free plant! We can reuse them and this helps keep our costs down.
